LOST GNEISENAU
SUNK BY NORWEGIANS WITH CRUISERS AND OTHER SHIPS, ENEMY LOSSES IN TRANSPORTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 13. Details of the German naval losses as a result of Norwegian action are contained in the first Norwegian army communique, which was broadcast from Stockholm. The communique states that the battle-cruiser Gneisenau (26.000 tons) was sunk in Oslo Fiord, as were the cruiser Emden and several smaller ships. At Kristiansand the Germans lost the cruiser Karlsruhe, and at Stavanger a big warship was sunk' by the destroyer Acgcr. At Bergen one cruiser was sunk. A Press Association message from Stockholm says that the "Tidningen's" naval expert estimates that the losses of German transports bound for Norway amount to 70.000 to 80 000 tons, or between 25 and 30 vessels. He adds that it is impossible to estimate the direct losses in men and material, but it is known that each ship curried at least 200 men. The Gneisenau was a sister-ship of the Seharnhorst. which was beaten oil by H.IVI.S. Renown in Tuesday's battle. The Germans themselves had announced that, the cruiser Blucher, a smaller ship Ilian Hie Gneisenau. was sunk' in Oslo Fiord.
