WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

KOPUARANGA MEETING. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women's Institute was held in the local hall on Thursday. The president (Mrs Jarrett) presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence wore received from Mesdames C. C. Jackson and Brophy. Members stood in silence as a rnark of respect to the memory of the late Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage). It was decided to ask each member to give an. article of clothing, and next month to make up a parcel to send to the Finnish children. The president, welcomed two new members, Mrs O'Connor and Mrs Trass.

The potato growing competition resulted as follows:—Mrs Kenny (371bs) 1, Miss D. Kenny (331bs) 2. Mrs W. J. Cottle (301bs) 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdnmes S. J. Clarke and W. J. Cottle. Mrs Jarrett gave an interesting demonstration on novel wool embroidery. for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—Cream puffs: Mrs Jennings 1. Miss E. Jarrett 2, Mrs W. J. Cottle 3. Paper hat: Mrs Brophy 1. Mrs O'Connor 2, Miss E. Jarrett 3. Best bloom: Miss D. Kenny 1. Miss M. Wright 2. Mrs Kenny 3. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a dose.

KAITUNA*FERNRIDGE INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Kaituna-Fernridge Women’s Institute, Mrs J. Welsh presiding. Before commencement of the business of the meeting members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mrs R. Welch and the 'ate Mr M. J. Savage. It was decided to hold a card and dance evening in (he Kaituna Hall on May 2. Mrs Schainweber gave a very interesting demonstration on the decorating of vases and the making of shoulder sprays. The competitions for the month resulted as; follows: —Sultana cake. Mrs Stempa J, Mrs Chapman and Mrs Welch, equal, 2. Seed cake: Mrs Stempa 1. Mrs Shaw 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Misses McKenzie and Pain. Eleven helmets were sent to the Navy League lor distribution among the sailors of the navy. Next month's competition will be for three girdle scones.
