WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-MAN Al A MEETING. Mrs Munn presided over a large attendance of members and friends at the meeting of the Solway-Manaiu Women's Institute held on Thursday. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs Woollett. who very kindly made five cakes and five tins of biscuits for the soldiers’ parcels. The hostesses for the District Federation meeting to be held on April 24 were reminded of the date of the meeting. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Institute on May 9 in the Epiphany Hall so as to have Miss Johnson to give a talk entitled: "Women in Other Lands.” The results of competitions were as follow: —Cooking: Sponge. Mrs Webber 1. Mrs Groombridge 2: rice buns, Mrs Catherall. Junr.. 1. Mrs Catton 2; flowers, asters or best bloom. Mrs Crew 1. Mrs Sutherland. Junr.. 2: sewing, knitting bag. Mrs Groombridge 1. Next month's roll call is to be: "A Strange Coincidence." The competitions for next month are: Cooking, scones, white and wholemeal; sewing, hot water bag cover: flowers, best bloom and decorated bowl of autumn foliage. The hostesses for next month will be Mesdames McAllister. McMichael and McGovern and Miss McAllister.
