Mr. P. Fagan (Wellington) is a guest at the Hotel Midland. Masterton. today. After serving for 29 years as a member of the Oroua County Council. Mr 0. McElroy, who represented Mangaone Riding, has resigned. Lieut. C. C. Cook, of Masterton. New Zealand Dental Corps, has been appointed dental officer, Trentham Military Camp. Mr S. M. Rapson, Public Works Department engineer, Masterton, resumes duty on Monday after a month's holiday. Captain Dr. Bramwell Cook, of the Salvation. Army, from India, who will visit Masterton at the week-end, will be the guest of Major and Mrs Ericson, of the Whatman Home. Mr and Mrs R. R. Macdonald and family have taken up their residence in Masterton. following Mr Macdonald's transfer from the North End branch of the Bank of New Zealand, Wellington. Mr William Burton, representing the New Zealand Motion Picture Exhibitors' Association, has been appointed a member of the Cinematograph Film Operators' Licensing Board, vice Mr H. F. Lambert, resigned, according to a gazette notice this week. Lieut. C. C. Marsack, of Masterton, has been posted from the Reserve of Officers to the First Battalion, Hawke's Bay Regiment, Lieut. A. W. Reynolds. First Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, has been granted the temporary rank of captain. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust a motion of sympathy was passed with the Government' in the death of Mr Savage, and tiie trustees stood for a few moments in silence as a mark ol respect to his memory.

Lieut.-Colonel J. 11. Irving, E.D., of Masterton. has been appointed to command the Second Training Battalion. Major R. !•’. Mitchell. M.C., of Hinakura. will be second in command. Both officers served in the Otago Regiment in the Great War. They report to Trentham today. Captain W. J. A. Morris, of Masterton, is also reporting at Trentham for duty with the Third Training Battalion.
