FEATHERSTON

BOROUGH COUNCIL RAIL CAR ACCOMMODATION INADEQUATE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council was held lasi night, the Mayor. Mr J. W. Card, presiding. There were also present Councillors M. D. Tait, R. F. Watson, W. Johnson, C. R. Skipage, B. D. Donald. G. Hardie. H. W. Cundy. C. C. Kenward and J. Viles. A resolution was passed conveying to the relatives of the late Mr Savage and to his colleagues in the Government its sense of the loss occasioned by his death. The headmaster of the Featherston School wrote offering to supply seedlings of the following native trees: 20 lacebarks. 50 matipo, 50 to 100 tacrata. 50 kowhai, 12 ngaio, 12 karaka and 2 cabbage trees. The children would plant them and care for the trees. The offer was accepted arid the trees are to be planted in Clifford Square. In reply to the council's protest regarding inadequate rail-car accommodation to cater for passengers from Featherston, the Railways Department said that there was not sufficient traffic at the moment to warrant the running of a second rail-car. The council had pointed out that although passengers from Featherston had booked their seats, they had been unable to secure seats and were left behind. It was decided to take up the matter with Mr Ben Roberts, member for the district. The Social Security Department advised that it was unable to make any assistance available lor the employment of a man for twelve months. The Inspector of Health. Masterton, wrote regarding drainage regulations at a certain property.

A resolution was passed as to the sale of land for the realisation of overdue rates.

The offer of the Masterton Municipal Band to play at the Anzac Day services at Featherston was accepted. Subsidies from the Main Highways Board for the year totalled £49 9s lid.
