INVADERS CHECKED
STATEMENT BY DR HAMBRO. GERMANS AT ELEVERUM THROWN BACK. (Received This Day. 11.15 a.m.) STOCKHOLM, April 11. Dr Hambro (President of the Norwegian Parliament) confirms that the Norwegians stopped a German advance eastward of Narvik by a surprise counter-at-tack. The local Norwegian commander at Narvik. Colonel Sundlo, has been arrested because he made unauthorised contact with the invaders. Colonel Sundlo is a friend of Major Quisling, leader of the Norwegian Nazis. The commander of the North Norwegian forces has been instructed to establish contact with the British commander at the earliest, possible moment. The Germans at Eleverum have i been thrown back at all points and isolated by the blowing up of bridges behind them. Five thousand Germans landed at Bergen, but the Norwegians yesterday halted the invaders' march to the interior. The Norwegian Government has moved from Elverum to Nybcrgsund, which is fifteen miles from the Swedish border. The Norwegian Government has ordered the Chief of Police at Oslo to arrest the members of the puppet government.
