ABORTIVE RAIDS
ON NORTH OF SCOTLAND ENEMY PLANES SUFFER HEAVILY. NUMBER SHOT DOWN. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, April 11. The Air Ministry stated that the enemy carried out a number of bombing raids on the north of Scotland last evening. Two Tleinkels were shot down while attacking a convoy in the Moray Firth and it is believed that a third was also destroyed.
Later the enemy attacked Scapa Flow in successive waves in large and small formations. Bombs were dropped and machine-gun attacks carried out against Stromness and Kirkwall, but the raid was abortive. No warships or other ships or property were damaged, and the only casualty was a man slightly injured. Anti-aircraft guns opened fire and both the fleet air arm and fighter aircraft were sent up. It is certain that three enemy bombers were brought down by anti-aircraft. Two more were severely damaged and are unlikely to have reached their bases.
