Black i hread Too Good. Black Thread, carrying 9.12, was much too good for the open sprinters in the Flying Handicap at the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting yesterday. Jeanne led into the straight from Brunhild. Lexden, and Black Thread, but the last-named was soon in charge. Over the last furlong he never looked like being beaten and ho had two lengths to spare from Rakahanga when he reached the post. Footloose, who stumbled at the start and was last at the half-mile, finished fast for third, and Golden Blondo was fourth. Ajax has only been once unplaced in 41 starts, his record being 33 wins, five seconds and two thirds. Methods of Pronunciation. Since Beau Livre (or Bcaulivre) ran second to Mildura in the Doncaster at Randwick, states the Sydney Daily Telegraph, there has been much discussion as to the correct pronunciation and spelling of his name. One radio announcer calls him Bo Liver, another Boly-ver and a third 80-liv-ray. His owner, Mr E. C. Harnett, and trainer, G. Price, stick to Bo Leev. The name, which is French for Good Book, is apt, because of his breeding —Beau Pore —Pass Book. The A.J.C. original entry sheet printed his name as Beau Livre, but in race book and in liis New Zealand registi'ation■ he appeared as Beaulivrc.
