BOXING CLUB ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Featherston Amateur Boxing Club held its annual meeting in the Odd Fellows' Hall when Mr R. J. Watson presided over a good attendance. The statement of receipts and expenditure and the annual report were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. D. FI. S. Riddiford (re-elected); president. Mr J. Varnham; vice-presidents, Messrs H. McKay, J. W. McKain, T. Hardie, J. Donald. J. W. Card, FI. Rolls. F. Brough. R. Watson, and J. W. Fellingham; secretary, Mr W. Jeffrey (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mr J. Willett; instructor, Mr W. Nix; assistant instructor, Mr C. Clemens; club captain, Mr A. Jensen; delegates, Messrs Varnham and Watson; hon surgeons. Drs Sharp and Oakey; committee, Messrs Willett, McKain, Carlyon, Cade. K. Thom. F. Brough, R. Watson, A. Crawford, W. Sturdee and Mellish. A meeting is to be held to discuss the question of whether the club will function during the season. The president (Mr R. F. Watson) reported inter alia as follows: In presenting the report for the year ended 1939 it gives me pleasure to see the club still in such n good, sound financial position, after a heavy drain on our funds during the year. A good deal of extra gear has been purchased for the club, mat, match gloves, punching bag, etc. The sum of £l6 was divided between Messrs V. Halloran (tiainei) and L. Morris (pupil) as expenses to tournament N.Z. Championship meeting. I would like to thank the committee and the public generally for the splendid way they have worked and assisted with the finances of the club during the year. Thanks are due to all committee men. HAUNUI CROQUET CLUB MEMBERS ENTERTAINED. The foundation members of the Haunui Croquet Club. Mesdames Wakely, Barry and Miss Eva Card, entertained playing members yesterday. The competition results were as follow: Half hour games, highest score: Miss Nix I,> Mrs Langford 2. Driving. Miss Esma Card; hurry scurry, Mesdames Buck and Flankers; to and fro, Miss Nix; race, Mrs Buck; fine shot. Miss Esma Card; peg, Mrs J. B. Davis; consolation. Miss Eva Card.
Miss Nix, on behalf of the members thanked the hostesses for having provided a pleasant gathering. Personal Items. Mrs F. C. Benton is an inmate of Kelvin Private Hospital. The Right Rev Bishop Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, will be the preacher at the evening service at St John's Church next Sunday. Bishop Bennett will visit Waiorongomai on Monday evening. Mr A. McGuiness, who underwent an operation in the Wellington Hospital. has returned home.
