ABSURD ALLEGATIONS BY RIBBENTROP FUEHRER “SAVING" NORTH EUROPE. GOEBBELS JOINS IN CHORUS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. April 9. Herr Von Ribbentrop (German Foreign Minister) addressing the foreign Press, said: “Germany has assumed responsibility for the preservation of neutrality throughout Scandinavia. No Frenchman or Britisher will hereafter be seen on Scandinavian soil. Our steps have saved Scandinavia from annihilation! The Fuehrer has saved North Europe from the ravages of war! "Britain’s violation of Norwegian neutrality yesterday worthily follows a series beginning with the bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807 and continuing until today’s and yesterday's move. The British torpedoing of </•%•- ery type of ship was part one of 'the plot. Part two was to follow immediately, namely the occupation of all Scandinavia including Sweden, > after which the troops were to move against Germany from the north.” Dr Goebbels, broadcasting, announced: “Germany has sent Notes to Norway and Denmark declaring that the Reich does not intend to touch their territorial integrity or political independence. “The Reich has documentary evidence that Britain and France intended in the next few clays to occupy most of the important areas of Scandinavia-. "The Danish and Norwegian Governments and peoples must refrain from hindering the German advance or their resistance will be crushed. Germany will not use Denmark or Norway as a base for operations against Britain unless Britain compels such action.” A proclamation issued at Copcn.hagen and signed by the German commander, General Kauprisch, warns the Army and population to avoid active and passive resistance which will be broken by every means of force. It added: “Continue your daily work and keep quiet. The German Army is now taking care of your security against British encroachments.”
