MAHUNGA CLUB OPENS SEASON IMPROVEMENTS TO LINKS. MIXED FOURBALL PLAYED. In spite of the unfavourable weather about 150 members and visitors were present at the Mahunga Golf Club's links on Saturday for the official opening of the club’s season. The club captain. Mr I. I. McGregor. extended a welcome to new members and to the visitors. He apologised for the absence of Mr J. Robertson. M.P. and Mrs Robertson, who were unfortunately unable to be with them. He then called on the president. Mr G. H. Perry, to formally declare the season open. Mr Perry, who was received with applause, expressed his pleasure at once again being present and congratulated the club. It was very pleasing to see also the interest the greenkeeper, Mr Thornton, look in the course. The fairways and greens were in good order and although the wet afternoon was not the best of conditions for an opening day the fairways and greens would benefit from the rain and he assured those present of an enjoyable season’s golf. He had very much pleasure in declaring the season open.
A mixed fourball competition played over 9 holes resulted in a win for Mr R. Hendry and Miss N. Yates 68. with Mr B. Summers and Miss R. Bradley 69 as runners-up.
MASTERTON CLUB MEDAL COMPETITION RESULTS. A medal competition was played on the Lansdowne links on Saturday by members of the Masterton Golf Club, the results being: N. G. Whiteman. 91. 14, 77; E. Nitz 98. 18. 80. Junior: H. R. Falloon 97. 26. 71; W. J. Rew 99 18. 81.
