WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MAT/dRAWA-DALEFIELD meeting \ ' (“Titnes-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Matarawa-Dalefield Women's Institute Mrs L. Rogers presided over a large attendance of members. Business in connection with the recent conferences was discussed. The competitions resulted as follows: Presentation box of flowers: Mrs O. Brazendale 1; Mrs M. Knowles 2; Mrs L. Rogers 3. Scarves knitted for Air Force: Mrs M. J. Parker 1; Mrs S. McCarty 2; Mrs W. Knowles 3. The
scarves will be forwarded to the Air Force headquarters. Another competition was won by Mrs J. Barnett. The resignation of Mrs H. J. Bain as secretary was received and accepted with regret. Miss J. Knowles was appointed to the position. It was decided that during the winter months meetings be held in the Matarawa schoolroom. It was reported that the junior membership had increased sufficiently for a junior section to be included in the monthly competitions:' The competitions for next month will be: Decorated jam jar of flowers, and a plan for competitions for the next ten months. Mcsdames E. G. Knowles, M. Knowles, W. Knowles and 'W. Linton were the hostesses for the afternoon.
SWIMMING BATHS ART UNION DRAWN. The drawing of the art union in connection with the Centennial Swimming Baths took place this morning in the Council Chambers in the presence of the mayor and councillors, citizens and Press representatives, and under the supervision of the police. The winning number was 1158 and was purchased under the name "The Beachcomber,” Carterton. )> ’ Farewell Sermon. The Rev H White, of the Carterton Methodist Church, will preach his farewell sermon to his congregation tomorrow evening. Mr and Mrs White and family will leave next week for their new home at Tauranga. On Thursday evening the congregation will meet to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs White and family. Erection of Flag Pole. Members of the Carterton branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association are busy this morning laying the | foundation and erecting the flag pole which was generously given them by Mrs E. M. Quinn, late proprietress of the Club Hotel. The staff will be used for the first time on Anzac Day.
