GRAIN AND PRODUCE

CANTERBURY MARKETS. POTATO PRICES FIRMER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 5. The increment of Id a bushel, which went on to wheat at the beginning of the month, has brought forward some of the lines that were being held, but business passing in this market now is only small. Australian inquiry has caused a slight firming in potatoes, which are now quoted at £3 10s to £3 15s a ton. on trucks, for May-June-July delivery. As in other recent seasons, trade with Australia depends on Australia lifting the embargo on New Zealand potatoes, and no official information on the possibility of any action is yet available. Australian merchants have also invited local growers to quote for sales of onions to Sydney over the next three months. Chaff is a little firmer at £5 to £5 ss, and up to 6s 9d is offering for such supplies of ryegrass as are available. Most other markets are unchanged.
