PETROL PRICES UP

ANOTHER HALF-PENNY A GALLON INCREASE. HIGHER COST OF RECENT SHIPMENTS. Motorists are called upon from this morning to pay another Id per gallon for petrol, following an announcement by the oil companies to the effect that the price has been increased by that amount throughout New Zealand. This brings the price of petrol in Masterton to 2s 7',d per gallon for ordinary grade, and to 2s B}d per gallon for super grade. The reason is said to be the rising cost of recent overseas shipments, not only in the f.o.b. price of motor spirit, but also in freight costs and rates of war risk insurance. Full details of the companies’ increased costs have been submitted to the Department of Industries and Commerce which, after investigation, has approved the increase.
