SALVATION ARMY
NEW COMMANDER VISITING MASTERTON NUMBER OF MEETINGS ARRANGED. CIVIC RECEPTION ON MONDAY EVENING. Commissioner Evan Smith, the newly appointed Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, and Mrs. Smith, are to make their first visit to Masterton on Monday next, when they will be accorded a civic reception. ' This is to take place in the Army Citadel on Monday evening at
8 o’clock. The Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan) will preside and other representatives will speak. On the occasion of the visit of Commissioner and Mrs. Smith, a special women's meeting has been arranged for Monday afternoon at 2.30, to which all ladies are invited. Both the Commissioner and Mrs. Smith will address this gathering. The Commissioner, who was private secretary to the founder of the Army, General William Booth, and to General Eramwell Booth, for 21 years, is a world-wide traveller, having journeyed with the Army leaders around the world on their various tours. The Commissioner is a most fluent and convincing speaker, and has imbibed much of the spirit of the founder of the Army as a result of his intimate associations with him.
