The following is the annual report of the Masterton Harrier Club, which is to be presented at the annual meeting to be held in the Masterton Y.M.C.A. rooms at 7.30 o'clock tomorrow night. The report is signed by the honorary secretary. Mr A. J. Andrews, and states, inter alia: “Substantial progress is reported in all the club’s activities. The response ol club members to the appeals of the committee for assistance in its variousenterprises has been excellent and it is sincerely hoped that the same sport will prevail during the coming seasons. It is recognised that during the coming season the club will be without some of its outstanding and most .enthusiastic runners who have joined up for active service with the New. Zealand Forces. In this connection the committee wish to congratulate Messrs A. Welply, G. Gregory, H. Carle, and G. Wickens.
“Finance: The committee has conscientiously studied all expenditure and with careful management is pleased to report that the club still has a substantial credit balance.
"Competitions: The club was again represented by an A and B team in the Provincial championships held over the arduous Silverstream course. We were successful irt gaining individual honours for the first time for many years and we take the opportunity of congratulating W. A. C. Pullar on his great run. We also wish to congratulate G. Gregory who. after a great effort, was just beaten for second place.. We had both these runners representing the Wellington Province at the New Zealand Championships, they gaining second and sixteenth places respectively.
"Inter-club: We did not have a verysuccessful season with our inter-club events, losing in turn to Hutt Valley. Wanganui and Hastings. However, the visits from these clubs were thoroughly enjoyed and we are looking forward to the coming season with hopes of regaining some of our lost trophies. Dannevirke rally: We competed at the above rally and were successful in gaining individual honours with W. A. C. Pullar and G. Gregory, who finished together some distance ahead of the field. District championship: Both of the ten and five mile titles went to W. A. C. Pullar. who gave splendid performances to outclass the fields in both ’events. The club championship. Wyeth Medal (5 miles) was also won by W. A. C. Pullar with G. Gregory second. Other events'resulted: Novice championship, C. J. Carle; Shaw Rose Bowl, W. A. C. Pullar; Cameron Cup H. Carle; Willis Cup. W. M. Sellar; Sanders Cup. Regained by Hutt Valley; Benson Trophy, retained by Wanganui; Keats Trophy. regained by Hastings. “In the Junior section the club had a most successful year and several promising runners should come out of their ranks in the next few years. The Liddal Cup for the Junior Championship was won by the consistent P. Greenlees who thoroughly deserved his win. The Bell Cup for the Junior aggregate was won by' a promisingjunior in K. Cairns. During the year several enjoyable and successful dances were held and a final closingdance was held in conjunction with the Kiatere club in the Masonic Hall proving an outstanding success. "Appreciation: The club holds its deepest gratitude to our ladies' committee for their most valued services given throughout the year. The success of our social functions is entirely due to their untiring work for which we are greatly indebted. We also wish to thank Mr and Mrs Geo Shaw and Mr and Mrs I. D. Cameron for their generosity in entertaining our visitors and members during the season. It is supporters of their calibre who make our Harrier Season such an enjoyable one. We tender our appreciation and thanks to all donors of trophies and to our numerous supporters and friends who have assisted us this season. We thank the Press for their continued generosity; to the numerous persons who so kindly allowed us to trespass on thenproperty during the season we tender our sincere thanks. “In conclusion, your committee consider that the club has emerged creditably from a particularly busy and trying season. It is sincerely hoped that the same happy disposition among all members that was so characteristic of last year's activities will prevail during the coming season. Members are urged to co-operate with their committee during the coming season who will need all their assistance in order to keep the Club in the solid position it is in today.”
