MINING COMMISSION
i REPORT ON GLEN AFTON ACCIDENT PRESENTED TO MINISTER. PROJECTED AMENDMENTS TO REGULATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) , WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Mines (Mr Webb) announced today that the Royal Commission appointed to investigate the recent accident at the Glen Afton Mine had submitted its report. The Minister stated that it was pleasing to learn that the commission supported the policy inaugurated by the present Government in regard to the provision of rescue stations in coal mining areas. The commission recommended the appointment of an elcctri-l cal mining inspector, whose duties would be to see that electrical equipment in coal mines was installed and maintained in accordance with the regulations. Applications for the position had already been invited by the Public Service Commissioner. A number of amendments to the Coal Mines Regulations had been recommended by the Commission and early action would bo taken io bring them into operation.
