Almost daily the Auckland headquarters of the New Zealand Red Cross Society receives further evidence of public appreciation of its activities. On a recent evening the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, paid a visit to the organisation. A home nursing class was in progress, and the Mayor expressed himself as being very pleased with the work demonstrated to him. The buildingoccupied by the Red Cross Society is owned by Sir Ernest, who, as the result of his visit, offered to forgo all rent for the duration of the war. The executive of the society has expressed its appreciation of this generous offer. Another recent visitor to the headquarters was a woman who, on being told that the Finnish appeal was still open, said she would be supplying some parcels. The Red Cross office the next day received two large cases of new clothing to the value of more than. £BO. The donor desired to remain anonymous.
