New Fire Engine.
Designed and constructed in New Zealand, the latest fire engine acquired by the Christchurch Fire Board incorporates all the latest improvements in this type of machine. The body and chassis are of the “new world type, the chief feature being the central well for the firemen to prevent injury at high speed. Beneath the seats on each side are spacious lockers for hose and other equipment, which can be quickly opened by snap ings on the sides of the machine. The pumping unit is situated at the rear of the machine, where all parts can be easily controlled. The pump has a capacity to deliver 500 gallons of water a minute at a pressure of 1201 b. It can also be converted to boost the pressure in the mains. There is a 45 gallon water supply carried on the machine for use in emergency. There are two searchlights and the hose and ladder brackets have snap fastenings, eliminating the delay caqsed in undoing straps. All fittings are finished in chromium plating.
