LABOUR CAUCUS
SELECTION OF NEW CABINET \ SOME INTERESTING ISSUES.,' A caucus of the Parliamentary Labour Party is to be held in Wellington tomorrow at which consideration will be given to the formation of a new Ministry. In accepting the office of Prime Minister he meantimes holds, Mr. Fraser agreed to make tentative arrangements for a provisional Ministry “till such time as the party can be consulted in regard to more permanent proposals.” It is taken for granted that Mr Fraser will be continued in his leadership and in the office of Prime Minister, but there is some speculation as to whether caucus, having selected a leader, will also select Ministers or will concede to the Prime Minister an unimpeded freedom in the choice of his colleagues and consent to accept his lead in this matter as in others. The existing provisional Cabinet is short by one member of its normal strength and some members of the party may favour increasing the number of Ministers. It seems likely that changes will in any case be made in the personnel of Cabinet, apart from the filling of the position now vacant.
