RIGBY FOOTBALL
RED STAR CLUB. ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the report of the Red Star. Football Club for the 1939 season: —Although not such a successful season as the previous ones, the teams acquitted themselves in a creditable manner. The form displayed by the younger members of the club augurs well for the future. We have pleasure in stating that the club has a credit balance of £2O 15s 4d. This credit balance is very gratifying and is due in a large measure to the untiring efforts of the officials, members and the social committee. We entered three teams in the competition —senior, junior and third grade. Some of the displays given by various players were very creditable, and we were looking forward to the club reaching a higher position in the championship competitions. but owing to the outbreak of the war our ranks are sadly depleted. Nevertheless, with the younger players and a few who are remaining, we hope to carry on and keep the club up to the best possible standard. We wish to congratulate the following players on gaining representative honours: Senior, R. Howard (capt.), W. Peterson, M. O'Kane, J. Broom, G. Barr. E. Cross and M. Harding; junior. E. Grantham, J. Broom, M. Rippon, T. Harris and G. McCulloch. The trophies presented during the season were won by the following players: D. Stewart’s trophy, W. Swain; R. Milne’s trophy. H. Golder; R. Milne's trophy, M. Levens; P. Prescott's trophy, W. Jaspers; B. Mill's trophy, J. Allen. The club wishes to extend to all their club players and members who have sailed with the first echelon and tc. those who are following in later drafts the best of good wishes for their welfare and a safe return. Our thanks are due to the Ladies' Committee for their valuable assistance during the season, to the Social Committee for their co-operation, tc the coaches for the amount of work and time given to coaching their teams; to the St. John Ambulance Brigade for the attention given at all times tc injured players; to the Press for the space so freely given for our club news: to the donors of trophies and to our numerous supporters for donations and assistance rendered, without whose help we would not have been able tc present such a satisfactory balance sheet. The annual meeting will be held in the Foresters’ Hall, Cricket Street, on Wednesday, April 3, at 8 p.m. Members and intending members are asked to be present.
