AT FORT BASTION

THOUSANDS VISIT MR SAVAGE'S GRAVE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 1. All day today Fort. Bastion was the scene of a remarkable pilgrimage when thousands of people visited the last J resting place of Mr Savage. From early 'morning till sunset and after crowds gathered on the headland, paying a final tribute. There was a group on the grassy slopes at 7 a.m. By 8 o'clock the numbers had swelled to 400 and then for many hours there was a constant procession of people coming and going. Youth and age were represented by the visitors, though the latter were in the great majority. The vault that contains the casket had been temporarily sealed the previous evening. It will remain so till such time as a premanent memorial to mark the burial place has been decided upon.
