HOMING PIGEONS

MASTERTON CLUB. RACE RESULTS. The Masterton. Homing Pigeon Club flew four races recently—-flock races from Dannevirke. Waipawa and Hastings and the young bird championship from Napier. Sixty-three birds were liberated from Dannevirke in fine weather. the first six placings for club points being: W. J. Miller’s "Braes o’ Doon.” 2hrs 44min SGsec, 1; I- Mayes’s "Shunderbolt.” 2.46.13. 2: I. Mayes's "Desert Star”. 2.47.28 3; W. J. Miller's "Flying Spray", 2.47.39 4; W. Steer’s "Black Hill”, 2.48.7 5: W. Steer's “Pied Piper". 2.48 32 6. The birds from Waipawa (90 miles airline), were liberated in rainy and heavily overcast weather, and were nearly four hours on the journey. Club points went to the following: E. Hirst's “Silver Glow,” 3.43.44, 1; I. Mayes’s “Thunderbolt." 3.44.0, 2; I. Mayes's “Desert Star,” 3.44.16. 3; J. Mayes's "Blue Danube". 3.45.10 4: W. Steer’s "Pied Piper", 3.45.53 5; W. Steer's "Negroid ", 3.46.28 6. From Hastings (113, miles airline), seventy-three birds were liberated in overcast weather, the arrivals being widely spaced. The first six placings were: W. J. Miller's "Strath Tay”. 4hrs llmin 51sec, .1; J. Mayes’s "Blue Danube", 4.12.32 2; C. J. Douglas's "Dixie,” 4.19.7. 3: I. Mayes's .“Bock's Gift", 4.56.46 4; W. Steer's "Pied Lady”, 4.57.23 5; W. J. Miller's “Dusky Maid”, 4.57.33 6. In the race from Napier (123 miles) for the Young Bird Championship Cup. 12 birds, being one bird from each loft, were liberated at 11 a.m. and the first arrival was clocked by I. Mayes at 2.42 p.m.. winning the cup first prize. The three prize winners were: I. Mayes's "Courageous” 3 hrs. 42min 46sec 1: Welch Bros’s “Bonny Lass", 3.44.47 2; C. J. Douglas's “Petite Babette". 3.47.4 3. The next race will be from Wairoa, 162 miles airline distance.
