ATTACKS ON CONVOYS
ENEMY AIR RAIDERS DRIVEN OFF NO DAMAGE DONE TO SHIPS. GERMANS ADMIT LOSS OF BOMBER. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, March 30. The Admiralty announced: “German aircraft attempted to attack our convoys last night but were driven off without damage to the convoys.” An aeroplane was chased to sea off Northumberland last evening. Later a lifeboat was found with only patches of oil nearby. The Air Ministry states that the plane was one which the Germans admit they lost in an attack on a convoy. A Berlin message says the official news agency admits that one. of the bombers which attacked a British convoy in the North Sea last night is missing, it claims that a cruiser protecting the convoy was hit and a ship in the convoy sunk. The result of the attack could not be fully observed because of mist.
MURDER TACTICS TRAWLER SKIPPER’S STORY. LONDON, March 29. The trawler Princess Royal reached port with her stern low in the water. Her skipper, Mr Brodie, who was injured, said: “It was a murderous attack. German bombers repeatedly raked us with machine-guns and dropped four bombs, of which two fell near the stern, Hooding the cabin. A piece of shrapnel hit me on the forehead and also one member of the crew. The vessel was riddled by incendiary bullets.”
