Masterton Building Permits.
There was an increase in the value of building permits issued in the Masterton Borough in March, compared with March, 1939. Four permits valued at £2,410 10s were granted, against six to the value of £1305 15s last year. Two new dwellings were authorised in the month, compared with one in March, 1939.
Treatment Appreciated. Mr G. Maloney (president) in his annual report in connection with the Greytown Hockey Club states: “The club is deeply sensible of the sympathetic treatment given to it by the Wairarapa Men’s Hockey Association at all times. Its members generally were always most ready to give consideration to any points raised by this club, and also to give encouragement to the boys in the matches where they were present. This evidence of interest culminated in a visit at the end of the season to Greytown by Messrs Hayne. Foster, Worsfold and Moor to present the trophies won by the Scout team, and add a word of praise generally to everybody. Club members, I am sure, join with me in saying that we are deeply conscious of the services being rendered by these men for hockey.” Longburn Freezing Works Sold. The Longburn freezing works, four miles south of Palmerston North, have been purchased by the Co-operative Wholesale Society of Britain. The National Mortgage Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited (.incorporated in England), whose Dominion headquarters are in Dunedin, is the vendor. Established as a farmers' works half a century ago, the enterprise proved at first a failure. The present vendors took over shortly thereafter and enjoyed a long and successful association with the freezing trade. The purchasers have been large buyers of fat stock throughout the Dominion for some years past, killing at. works on own account to supply own retail trade. They take over Longburn at the end of the current freezing year. October 1 next. Assistance Acknowledged.
