Dr J. O. Poynton, pathologist, Institute of Medical Research, Federated Malay States, is visiting New Zealand, and is at present in Wellington. Mr Ronald E. Lewis, Royal Air Force, formerly of Wellington, has been gazetted a Flight Commander. Dr Stuart. Moore, who began lecturing at the Otago Medical School in 1910, has resigned from his position of lecturer in clinical medicine. The Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, attended the funeral of the late Prime Minister in Wellington on Saturday as president of the Municipal Association of New Zealand.

Messrs E. Reveley (Timaru), C. Henderson (Taihape), F. Roberts (Wellington), H. E. Rankin and F. Connor were among guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, recently. Mr W. Bubb. of Longbush, is on a visit to Rotorua where his brother, Mr F. Bubb, is an inmate of the Rotorua hospital as the result of injuries received in a premature explosion of blasting powder. Among those who were present at the funeral of the Prime Minister in Wellington on Saturday were Mr R. E. Gordon Lee (chairman of the Masterton County Council) and Mr J. C. D. Mackley (County Clerk). A wreath from the Masterton County Councill expressed the council’s sympathy. A large number of official representatives at the funeral of the late Prime Minister, including the Deputy-Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, members of Cabinet, and legislature, representatives of overseas Governments and departmental officers who arrived in Auckland by special trains yesterday left again for the South at night. The annual report of the Kiatere Harrier Club states: —"It is with regret that we must record here the death of a most valued and respected supporter, Mr L. R. Batkin. From the club’s inception, Mr Batkin showed the keenest interest in the welfare of the runners and was the donor of many valuable trophies. In the coming season his support will be sadly missed, and we take this opportunity of extending our sympathy to Mrs Batkin.”
