The ambitious scheme for the exchange of trade routes which the Maritime Commission is considering may soon be taken up officially with Britain. The United States has over 80 ships idle as a result of the Neutrality Act. Britain, it is believed, has 12U trading in the North Atlantic, the Far East, and lo Australia and New Zealand. It is hoped to persuade Britain to transfer her tonnage to the Atlantic to permit American ships temporarily to take over ' Pacific routes.
