Mr and Mrs N. R. Cunningham, of Masterton, are spending a holiday in the North Auckland district. Mr and Mrs J. A. Betts, of Masterton, have returned from Taupo, where they have been fishing. Mr and Mrs R. W. Hogg, Eastbourne, are the guests of Mr and Mrs G. W. Sellar, Colombo Road. Masterton.

Miss Elizabeth Prater. Remuera, Auckland, who has been visiting at Marlborough and the Wairarapa. will return north tomorrow.

Mrs H. Sharpies, of Island Bay, Wellington, is spending the holidays as the guestoof Mrs R. Latham. Miriam Street. Masterton.

Mrs Kay, Gisborne, and Mrs A. McLean, Whakatanc. who have been visiting Wellington, spent a few days with Mrs W. H. Robieson, Masterton. before returning home.

Mr and Mrs H. Gaskin. Lincoln Road. Masterton. have left on a motor trip tn Wanganui. They are accompanied by Miss O. Mills. Villa Street, t.nd Mr J. McAliece, Bentley Street. Miss M. Diggins, Masterton. left yesterday for Hastings, where, with a party from Masterton. she is attending the annual Catholic Clubs Conference, as a member of the North Island executive.

Mr and Mrs H. Woodward Williams, of Mt Eden, Auckland, are spending a short holiday in Masterton, and are the guests of the Rev and Mrs F. J. Parker at the Methodist Parsonage.. They intend to make a tour of the South Island.

Mrs M. A. Jarvis, of Hastings, on Thursday celebrated her ninety-fifth birthday, and incidentally her ninetyfifth year of residence in New Zealand, for she was born in Wellington. Despite her age Mrs Jarvis keeps comparatively well. She is one of the oldest residents of Hawke’s Bay, for it is 83 years since she first went to live at Clive, and for 59 years she has resided in Hastings. Mrs Jarvis's brother, Mr Nat Pilcher, Gisborne, is 89 years of age. The death occurred recently of Mrs George Luke, widow of the late Mr George Luke, at the age of 75. Mrs Luke was born in Wellington and lived in the city all her life. She was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Edmund Spencer, who arrived in New Zealand in the early forties, and the youngest of a large family comprising well-known Wellington citizens, those who predeceased her being Mrs E. Tonks, Mrs G. Maslen, Mrs W. Prince, Mrs H. Hill and Messrs William, Thomas, Edward and Enoch Spencer. Her husband, who was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Samuel Luke, died in 1915.
