HORSE SPORTS SUCCESSFUL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Pongaroa Horse Sports Club held its annual gathering on Saturday last. The weather was fine and all the events were well contested. STEER-RIDING

PONGAROA VERSUS AOHANGA

During the weekend a large number of Pongaroa residents journeyed to Aohanga to witness the second annual steer-riding competition. Interest was keen, as the first contest re-sulted-in a draw. The riding this year was of a particularly high standard, some thrilling exhibitions being given. Gordon Wright and lan Hay were the outstanding riders of the day. Mr R. Johansen capably carried out the duties of judge. Pongaroa won by 32 points to 23. Special thanks are due to Mr C. Whitmore, manager of Aohanga Station. for providing excellent stock for the contest.

At the conclusion, Mr P. H. Donovan presented the Hugh English Shield to the winners.
