Mrs W. Hoar, of Cambridge Terrace. Masterton. is visiting Taranaki. Miss Shona McLeod, of Featherston, has been on a visit to Wellington. Mrs C. Elgar, Featherston, was a weekend visitor to Wellington. Mrs D. F. Osborne, Auckland, spent the weekend with her sister, Mrs D. B. Hoare, Masterton.

Mr and Mrs J. Gillies, Wellington, stayed at the Hotel Midland, Masterton, at the weekend.

Nurse Jessie Sealing, of Palmerston North, who had been visiting relatives in Masterton has returned home. Mr and Mrs Tracy Simpson, of Wellington, are the guests of Mr and Mrs L. Cross, Church Street, Masterton. Mrs Jacobs, of Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs Hornblow, Cornwall Street, Masterton.

A Gisborne party which stayed at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, yesterday was Mr C. I. Hunt, Miss N. Hunt, Miss J. Hunt and Miss J. Barbourne.

Mr and Mrs E. A. Johnston. Miss Johnston. Miss Noela Johnston and Miss H. Denneis, all of Rotorua, stayed at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton. on Saturday night. The death occurred recently at Matamata of Mrs Effie Harding, wife of Mr H. R. Harding. Born at Opaki. Masterton, in 1872. Mrs Harding was the second daughter of the late Mi and Mrs R. R. Welch, who were both born in New Zealand, Mr Welch at The Hutt and Mrs Welch (nee Winteringham) at Waikanae. In 1903 Mr and Mrs Harding and family left Masterton for Taihape, where they’ spent two years. In 1905 they left Taihape to take over their Turanga-o-rnoana farm, which they had drawn in the ballot on the opening of the Matamata Estate. For 25 years Mrs Harding assisted her husband to break in their farm and bring it to a high state of fertility. In 1930 they sold their property and retired to Matamata. She is is survived by her husband,, a son, Mr S. R. Harding (Turanga-o-moana) and two daughters. Mrs Paterson (Peria) and Mrs Pearce (Takapuna).
