CARTERTON

GUN CLUB CONTESTS ON SATURDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) There were not many competitors at the shoot held on the Carterton racecourse on Saturday when the final for the J. J. Hadley Cup was fired. The best score in two out of three competitions counted. A. Warren, of Pirinoa, was not present, but he already had a lead of one point over L. Rayner up to last week’s contest, and the shooting on Saturday did not alter the result. The best competitor on Saturday for the 21 bird match and the cup was C. Gray, who, from the 18 yards mark scored 20. He was shooting well and unfortunately missed his last bird, otherwise he would have tied with Warren. L. Rayner, from 13 yards, did not improve his position and got 19 birds. He and Gray tied for second position for the cup. The other shooters were N. Prussing (17), 18; R. Williams (13), 18. Personal. At Saturday’s meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society feeling reference was made to the death of Mrs Patrick. The deceased had for many years carried on the work of caterer at the Society's tea rooms and her death created a gap that would be hard to fill, said the president, Mr R. Tilson.
