FRENCH SENATE
CONFIDENCE EXPRESSED IN M. DALADIER AN UNANIMOUS VOTE. STRONG POSITION IN CHAMBER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. PARIS, March 16. The Senate last night passed a vote of confidence on a motion paying a tribute to Finland’s heroism and expressing “confidence in the Government in co-operation with our Allies in the conduct of the war with increasing energy until complete victory has assured the liberty of all nations.” The Senate’s high opinion of M. Daladier as premier can be deduced from the vote. His position in the Chamber is now even stronger, but an impression prevails in the Parliamentary lobbies and Press that M. Daladier may reconstruct his Cabinet with a view to providing a quickly-acting body of four or five Ministers, with himself presiding. An article signed by a senator in the Liberal paper. “L’Ordre” says: "The six months of war has convinced the Senate that the war is beyond the capacity of one man. It is an essential thing to get away from this inertia.”
The Left Wing “L’Oeuvre” issues a warning against saying that “time is on our side ”
“Le Jour,” which is almost opposite to “L’Oeuyre” in politics, declares that the country is expecting virile deeds. A London message states that the French Senate’s vote of confidence in the Government's war policy was passed unanimously after a secret session which last two days. M. Daladier defended the Government’s war policy, and after speaking for an hour and a quarter the session adjourned to give him a rest. He spoke on the Russo-Finnish war and on the war with Germany.
