WELLINGTON
FINAL DAY RESULTS. HANDICAP WON BY OLD BILL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Another successful.race meeting has gone on. the records of the Wellington Racing Club. Favoured by mild weather. with a westerly breeze, the centennial autumn meeting concluded at Trentham on Saturday in the presence of a large crowd. In spite of a crippling race in the North Island Challenge Stakes, which drew only three runners, the totalisator investments made a remarkable recovery in the later stages of the afternoon, and finished ahead of the corresponding day last year, showing a very satisfactory increase for the two days.
In the preliminaries for the Belmont Handicap, Jungle King, ridden by W. J. Stevens, bolted the reverse way, and, in trying to get into the training stalls, threw his rider, who was taken to hospital with concussion and head injuries. H. Stewart was substituted in the saddle, and Jungle King took his place in the field. The judicial stewards met and returned a verdict that the occurrence was accidental. Stevens's condition was reported yesterday to be satisfactory. The totalisator turnover for the day was £78.302 10s, compared with £75.'137 for the second day last year, an increase of £2805 10s. The aggregate for the meeting was £132.827. against £124.027 10s. a total increase of £8199 10s. Results:—
