CHILDREN’S HOME
MEETING OF THE BOARD. Mr J. H. Handyside presided at the monthly meeting of the Methodist Children's Home Board held at the home on Monday evening last. Other members present were Mesdames Parker. Elliott. Daniell, Messrs W. R. Nicol. A. Wellington, J. H. Conly, the Rev. F. J. Parker, G. F. Whitlock, W. H. Judd, and Dr. N. H. Prior. The matron was also in attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Miss Burton, Mrs Cocker. Messrs J. A. Donald and F. E. Wells.
Some of the children are being trained in special singing wherewith to assist the Carterton Church at the evening service of March 17.
A letter was received' from Mr J. A. Gilford, of Petone. enclosing £1 for the board's funds and extending his good wishes for our noble cause.
A financial statement for February was presented and adopted, and accounts amounting to £B5 19s lid were passed. The increase in the home’s running expenses was thoroughly discussed, but. if was the opinion of the board, that taking into account the upward trend of prices during the last two years, the home was being run as economically as possible. The matron reported that all was well with the home, two boys having been admitted during the month. One girl had not returned to school, and following the matron's advice, it was decided that the girl remain at the home for twelve months to receive domestic training.
The next meeting of the board will be- held at the home on Monday evening, April 1. when a full membership is asked for.
