The president’s report, covering activities of the Kahutara Women’s Institute, states: “The year just ended has been a very full one, the meetings have been instructive and enjoyable although sometimes the attendance was smaller than usual. At the council meeting held in Martinborough last October the Kahutara Institute was fortunate in winning the trophy (a brass bowl) presented by the Wairarapa Federation in the competition for Institute reports. Much credit is due to Mrs. Duffy for the manner in which she presented her report. For the monthly competitions we have presented a trophy each month, and at the end of the year points prizes are presented. This year the needlework and cookery points prize was won by Mrs. Duffy, that for the best bloom for the year was won by Mrs. Pope, the junior points prize for needlework was won by Miss L. Hood, and the points prize for blooms was won by Misses J. Hood and P. Nikailison equal. I would like to take this opportunity of congratulating these ladies, also to express thanks to Mesdames D. Wilson, Duffy, Fenwick and McKenna for generously donating the points prizes. In May we held our third birthday, which was much enoyed by all visitors. In July we held a successful ball. In December, the Institute organised a Christmas
tree for the children of the district, numbering 100. All the children received gifts. During the year we have exchanged library books with the Pirinoa Women's Institute. The library now has over 500 books. Thanks are extended to the librarian, Mrs. Humphreys. also to Mesdames Harland, Rogers and Mrs. Fenwick the hon. secretary. During the year we have farewelled Mesdames Harvey, Ackerman and Miss Hood; we were sad in doing so as they were valuable members of the Women’s ’lnstitute. It was with regret ■that the Kahutara Women's Institute sustained a great loss in the passing of our much loved member. Mrs. Seimonek. I would like to thank all members for their help and co-operation during the year. Many thanks are due to our treasurer. Mrs. Duffy, who so unselfishly has given so much of her time in helping with institute business. l In concluding this report we earnestly desire that the coming year will open with renewed strength and enthusiasm, and hope that the year which we are about to enter will end with world affairs straightened out, the war finished and the great Empire and Allies victorious.”
