CHINESE CLAIM.
WHO DISCOVERED AUSTRALIA'? It seems that China knew Australia long before it was known m tn? rest ot' the world. Long before the first white man sei foot there the Chinese had landed and travelled round the Continent. Moreover, they made a porcelain map of the island continent which was a better map than that made by Captain Coolr and the early Dutch and I’ort ugu:?so ex plorers. These facts have been mentioned by Dr. W. G. Goddard in an address before the Queensland branch of the Royal Geographical Society. In the course of his researches into old Chinese records Dr. Goddard has found the story of a vast expedition sent oui in l‘TO by the Emperor Yung I.a. Consisting of thousands of junks, manned by 30.00!) soldiers, the intention was to reach Ceylon, but after this vast armada had passed Sumatra violent storms broke cut and the junks were separated, some being driven to the coast of Western Australia. It was the crows of these junks who went round the great island continent, mapping it as they went,
