FIGHTING SERVICES
WELFARE FUND APPEAL AUCTION OF H.M.S. ACHILLES PICTURE. SUM OF £1473 COLLECTED TO DATE. A sum of £1473 5s 11d has been collected in the district up to 11 a.m. today for the Fighting Services Welfare Fund. In all thirty-three firms and other establishments in Masterton have now agreed to make stall collections in aid of the Fighting Services Welfare Fund. The latest additions to the list are the Public Trust Office and Jenkins’ Motors. The auction of the framed photograph of H.M.S. Achilles, including photographs and signatures of Wairarapa members of the crew, is to take place in the Opera House tomorrow evening, immediately after the speech by the Hon A. Hamilton at the recruiting meeting. Before the end of the week the public will have an opportunity of putting something into the flag which was responsible for raising £25.000 for patriotic purposes during the last war. This flag will be seen in the schools’ procession on Friday.
