Some beautiful samples of Sevres porcelain from the ,1. H. Songer collection and dating from 1764 to 1842 are in a special exhibit in the main ethnology room at the Canterbury Museum. Dr R. A. Falla, the director, said that the whole china collection. which is mainly English, is being rearranged, and the Sevres pieces have been chosen for exhibition while the work is being done. The Sevres factory was established at Vincennes in 1745 with Royal support. In 1753 it was reconstituted and in 1755 was transferred Io Sevres, between Versailles and Paris. Louis XV was at one time the sole proprietor. The collection in the museum includes a pair of big vases, more than 3ft high, with painting done in the grounds of the Royal Palace; sweet dishes dated 1764; cups and saucers, and a table mounted with Sevres panels dated 1791.
