FEATHERSTON
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age" Special.) The annual meeting of the Featheiston Women's Institute was held at Kahautara Hall yesterday, Mrs McKenna presiding over a good attendance. Two visitors from Martinborough. Mrs Jolly, Wairarapa Federation, and Mrs Tyler, were present. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mrs McKenna; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Hood and Pope; secretary, Mrs R. Fenwick; press correspondent, Miss Stansell; treasurer, Mrs J. Sinclair; committee. Mesdames Rogers, D. Wilson, H. Harland, T. Duffy, Humphrey, Pound. Misses Hood and Corlet.
Mrs Jolly presented the points prizes for the year as follow: —Needlework and cookery, Mrs Duffy; best bloom. Mrs Pope; junior needlework, Miss L. Hood; best bloom, Misses L. Hood and P. Nikolaisen.
All the prizes were kindly donated by Mesdames D. Wilson, Duffy, R. Fenwick and McKenna.
Mrs McKenna presented Mrs Jolly with a shoulder spray.
The president, Mrs McKenna, asked Mrs Hood to convey the Institute’s congratulations to her son, Chief Petty-Officer L. Hood on his decoration.
It was decided to send two parcels from the Institute to the Wellington Patriotic Society for distribution overseas.
The competitions resulted: —Date scones: Mrs Rogers, 1; Mrs Pope, 2. Best bloom: Mrs Pound, 1; Mrs Duffy, 2: Miss Stansill, 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Pound, Duffy, Rogers and Miss Corlet. SWIMMING AILSA MCDONALD CUP CONTEST. The first contest in the 1940 series for the Mr Ailsa McDonald Cup, held yesterday afternoon, resulted in a win for Featherston girls by 33 points to 1, while Martinborough boys won by 20 points to 14. The decision in the boys’ events was in doubt until the last event, the relay race, which was won by Martinborough by a touch. Easter Dance. At a meeting held at Pahautea on Monday night it was decided to hold a dance on Easter Monday night, the funds to be used in farewelling the local boys from district on final leave.
