CARTERTON
PARKVALE SCHOOL PICNIC LARGELY ATTENDED. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a large number of children, parents and friends present at the annual picnic of the Parkvale School held on Saturday. The weather was perfect and a very happy time was spent by old and young alike. An excellent lunch and afternoon tea were served by the ladies’ committee. Men's nail driving: Mr R. O. Rayner. OBITUARY ' MRS AGNES COLEMAN. The death occurred at Matangi, Waikato, on Thursday, February 29, of Mrs Agnes Jane Coleman, the widow of the late Mr William Coleman, at the age of 71 years. Mrs Coleman was born at Taita, Lower Hutt, and was a daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Eaton, of Wairarapa, and was married in the Wairarapa. After her marriage she lived for some years at Stratford and later at Waverley and twenty years ago removed to Matangi, Waikato. Her husband predeceased her in 1924. The deceased is survived by two sons and two daughters. They are Messrs R. E. Coleman (Wairoa), and W. E. Coleman (Te Rapa) and Mesdames R. D. Lee (Te Kuiti) and H. J. Lee (Hamilton). Three brothers and two sisters also survive, Messrs Geo H. Eaton (Masterton), Thomas R. Eaton (Longbush) and Charles Eaton (Matangi) and Mesdames A. King (Rexwood Street, Carterton) and W. A. Renall (Parkvale). Two brothers and one sister predeceased her some years ago. There are ten grandchildren. The funeral, which was largely attended took place on March 2, at Hamilton. The pall bearers were Messrs H. Lee (son-in-law), Walter Hirst (cousin), Malcolm Coleman (cousin) and L. Cole. Many beautiful wreaths were sent, testifying to the esteem in which Mrs Coleman was held. Mrs A. King and her brother, Mr Thomas Eaton, made the journey to Matangi and were present at the funeral. BOWLING CHAMPION RINK. Last evening on the Carterton Bowling green, before a large number of enthusiasts, the final game in the club champion rink competition was played and after an interesting game ended in favour of the rink skipped by G. Riggs. J. Harp, his opponent, commenced badly, the first two ends registering 11 points against his rink. However they were within five points of their opponents for two or three heads on the second half of the board, but could not head them off. The result and players were: Smith, Harrington, Reg Thompson. Riggs (s) beat Steven (sub), Underhill, Larsen. Harp (s) 27/16. The successful rink was complimented by club mates. PLUNKET SOCIETY CARTERTON BRANCH. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Plunket Society was held on Monday. There were present Mesdames Wells, Armstrong. Callender and Trapp. The Nurse's report for February was: New cases 5; ante-natal 1; breastfed babies 4; visits to homes, new cases 13. old cases 37; visits to rooms, adults 119, babies 106. children 19. The amount taken at the day on Friday was £ll 3s 6d. the expanses being 8s 6d. Accounts amounting to £2l 7s 6d were passed. Personal. Sergeant and Mrs Murray, of Waimate, South Island, are staying in Carterton for a few days and are the guests of Mrs Alfred King, Rexwood Street. Mr Murray is well known to Carterton residents, having been some years ago in charge of the Carterton police district. Mr S. G. Adlam. of Tukikaramea, Frankton, is the guest of Mr and Mrs W. Adlam, Parkvale. Mr and Mrs A. D. Taylor of High Street, Carterton, have returned from their annual holiday which was spent in Hawke’s Bay and Taupo.
