HEAVY NOMINATIONS MANY VOTE-SPLITTING CONTESTS THREE OPPONENTS FOR -PRIME MINISTER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. OTTAWA, March 11. Candidates totalled 672 when nominations closed for the election on March 26, setting the stage for three and four-cornered battles for many of the 2-15 seats in the House of Commons.
Liberals have nominated 240 candidates, Conservatives 213, Co-operative Commonwealth Federation 96, and New Democracy 28. Variously classified Independents and Communists number 95. Straight Liberal-Conserva-tive contests are confined .largely to the Maritime Provinces and Quebec. Mr. Mackenzie King, Prime Minister, has been nominated for his old constituency in Prince Albert, where his opponents are Mr. R. R. Manville (National Unity), Mr. P. E. Testrelive (Commonwealth Federation) and Mr. A. C. Campbell (Communist).
