WRESTLING
/ WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. The ninth annual general meeting of the Wairarapa AVrestling Association was held last evening. Mr. A. J. Snelgrove (president) presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from several on account of other engagements. The report for the past season was adopted and considering the war interference and benzine restrictions, reflected favourably on the management. The balance sheet showed the affairs of the association to be in a very sound position. The action of the executive in foregoing a social function and passing a donation of £lO ,10s. to the Mayor’s Patriotic Fund was unanimously endorsed. The services of the hon. secretary were the subject of favourable comment, and his honorarium was raised to the previous level.
Advice was received from the Dominion Union that arrangements were made for the importation of a professional team, the first to arrive on April 12th so that the incoming season promised to be better than at first seemed possible. The circuit would also include exchanges with Australian promoters.
The amateur section would also receive every consideration and help, and should be a good means of the New Zealand youth perfecting their physical fitness.
The local amateur championship cups were presented to the winners. The Featherston Club and its coach, Mr. McLeod, were commended for their successes, having won six of the eight cups. Following are the winners of the respective classes: —Bantam, M. Leighton. Featherston: feather, D. Jensen. Featherston; lightweight, G. Wenden. Featherston; welter, H. Chappel, Masterton; middle, R.
