New Serial Story. There commences in the “TimesAge” today an extraordinary story by that noted author Alroy West entitled “The Stratosphere Express.” It tells of a gripping adventure into the new sphere of aerial exploits, and abounds in mystery. Territorial Parade. There will be a parade of C and D Companies, First Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, in the Masterton Drill Hall at 7.30 o'clock tonight. Change in Weather. There was a considerable change in the weather this morning. From an early hour a storm could be seen coming from the south, and at about 8.30, after the sky had darkened considerably, the storm burst. The full brunt of the rain was felt by those on their way to work. Procession Feature. Arrangements have been made by the Centennial celebrations committee lor the appearance of a bullock team and waggon in the procession on Thursday. It is anticipated that this will provide an interesting exhibit among the huge array of displays. Woman Found Injured. Mrs Catherine Reidy, aged 53. of Cuba Street, Palmerston North, was found unconscious in the city on Saturday, suffering from an injury to her forehead. She was removed to the public hospital, and last night she had not fully regained consciousness.
Social Security Payments. The offices of the Social Security Department will be closed from Friday. March 22 to Monday. March 25 inclusive. Payments of all benefits and pensions normally made on the 23rd and 25th of the month will be made from and including Wednesday. March 20. War Veterans' allowances will be paid from and including Friday. March 29. Centennial Dog Show.
Two locally-owned Labrador dogs. Captain Black and Black Beauty, both owned by Mr. and Mrs. Popple, of Bannister Street, had a very successful day at the Wellington Kennel Club’s Centennial dog show, held on Saturday at the Exhibition. Both dogs gained two firsts, two seconds and a third against a largo entry of dogs. Oil Drilling.
Preparations for drilling operations are to be begun by the New Zealand Petroleum Company near Midhirst immediately, a New Plymouth Press Association message states. The location selected is on the Denbigh Road, a mile and a half from Midhirst, and the initial work wifi consist of I lie construction of a road to carry equipment to the site. It is expected that drilling will begin by May 1
