FAREWELL EVENING GATHERING AT HINAKURA. ("Times-Age” Special.) Residents of Hinakura gathered on Wednesday evening to farewell Mr George Sutherland who has lived there for over four years and is now holi- • daying before entering a military camp. Mr Sutherland was presented with a set of brushes as a parting gilt from the residents. BOWLING CHAMPION RINKS CONTEST. The champion rinks of the Martinborough Bowling Club was decided on Thursday' night, the winners being D. Pryor, T. Smith, J. Jenkins, W. Knell (s) who beat C. Ross, W. McNally, C. Skill, J. Larsen (s). A night tournament will be held on Tuesday, March 12, at 7 o’clock. THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS ON MARCH 30. This year the annual Martinborough Amateur Athletic and Horse Sports are to be the Centennial celebration for the town and district, and are to be held on Saturday, March 30. The programme has been revised and considerably enhanced in prize money and trophies, the latter including four cups given by the borough for women’s, boys' and girls’ events, and to be won outright. With many sideshows and other attractions the gathering should be one worthy of the occasion. Mr Duncan Morrison, of Hinakura, is spending a holiday in Rotorua. Personal. Mr E. Dempsey, of the Martinborough telephone exchange, has been transferred to Feilding, and is to leave Martinborough next week to take up his duty. Mr T. Duffy has resigned from the postal service to enter the Air Force, and will go into the training camp at Levin in a few days. Mr G. Cuthbert, who has had charge of the Dyer School for the past few years, has accepted charge of the school at Hukanui, and will take over at the beginning of next month.
