HORSES & PONIES

MOVE TO FORM BREEDS ASSOCIATION HOPES OF STRONG BODY BEING SET UP. ADDITIONAL PRIZE MONEY. At an informal meeting called at the Masterton Show a proposal was put forward by Mr. T. V. Caverhill that an association be formed to be called the Light Horse Breeds Association. There were over 100 present. It was explained the idea was to form a strong association with the object of assisting shows with extra prize moneys in horse and pony classes and also with the idea of getting an up-to-date judges’ list, as affecting light horses and ponies. It was thought that a strong association could be formed on the basis of 5s a year membership. Probably 2000 members could be secured from Wairarapa, Wanganui, Manawatu, Rangitikei, Feilding to Hawke's Bay districts. All the moneys collected less the cost of secretarial and office expenses would be paid over to shows in these districts as extra prizes in certain classes. Mr. A. W. Parsons, of Waipukurau, promised £5 towards getting the proposal started and others present promised financial assistance. It is hoped all members of the various shows interested will become members, as the proposals will help their own shows. It was thought that before any exhibitor could claim the extra prize money offered that exhibitor should be a member of the Breeds Association. The following agreed to be delegates to attend the first meeting which it is intended to be held in Palmerston North during the Winter Show: — Messrs. Howard Booth (Carterton), W. E. Olsen (Pahiatua), T. D. Baker (Raetahi), Alf Ayers (Dannevirke), T. V. Caverhill (Masterton), L. H. Collinson (Palmerston North), J. Overton (Taihape). A. W. Parsons (Waipukurau). Mr. R. H. Williams was appointed secretary pro tern.
