HARBOUR COLLISION
CARGO STEAMER BADLY DAMAGED LINER ESCAPES LIGHTLY. MAN BELIEVED TO BE MISSING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.25 a.in.) SYDNEY. This Day. A freighter of about 2800 tons, owned by the Union Steam Ship Company and engaged in the New Zealand trade, was badly holed in a collision with an 11.000-ton Blue Star liner near the Harbour Bridge late last night. 'logs attempted to tow the freighter io Darling Harbour, but she had to be beached to prevent her sinking. A large hole was lorn in the freighter's bows, penetrating through to the crew's sleeping quarters. The liner was not greatly damaged. The police were told that n seaman on the freighter was crushed and ’tilled, but later Hie master of the ship said ho could account for all the members of his crow. A man is believed to lx? missing from the liner.
