WAR ON COMMENCE
NAZI ORDERS TO AIR PILOTS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. BERLIN, March 7. Neutral vessels that are escorted by Allied warships either in a voluntary convoy or forcibly to a contraband control base are liable to be treated as enemy ships, and for this reason can be attacked from the air, says an official statement. After denying accusations that Germany is sinking neutral ships indiscriminately, the statement adds: “It is impossible for German pilots to distinguish whether neutrals are escorted voluntarily or forcibly, and such convoys can legitimately be attacked. Our pilots have strict orders not to attack unconvoyed neutrals and they have never machine-gunned their crews.”
