Southland Jumpers. During the next few weeks the steeplechasing season in Southland will be in full swing, and present indications are that there will bo a wealth of material offering. The jumping events at Riverton have drawn the best entries for some years, and the form exposed at Easter will be a reliable guide for later fixtures. The fact that both Slayer and Survoy, two of the best steeplechasers raced last season. and who will have to carry big weights, are to reappear at Riverton, will bo an attraction in itself. Survoy is no stranger to Riverton. Two years ago ho was brought south to contest the Great Western, for which he was sent out favourite after he had won at Otaulau the wook before. At Riverton however, ho fell when going particularly well. Last year ho won the Southern Champion Hack Handicap and paid a sensational dividend. In the meantime he has won the Groat Northern Steeplechase and the Wellington Steeplechase, and was one of the early favourites for the Grand National Steeplechase, but did not take his place in that field. Slayer has also had some experience of the Riverton country. Ho won hisi first race as a steeplechaser over the course 12 months ago. He carried on I to win the Matai Steeplechase and thej Puly Steeplechase at Trentham. while! at Riccarton he finished third in the j Grand National Steeplechase and won I the Beaufort and Lincoln Steeple- I chases. Tn the Lincoln he carried 11.4 | over the three-mile journey. The reap-1 pcarance of this pair will be closely followed. I
