Newest protection from the sun instead of dark glasses is a Venetian mask of coloured cellophane tied on with coloured ribbons to accent your costume. Chanel’s modestly covered, shortsleeved dinner gown of lame damaskblack, gold, and turquoise blue —has its own bib necklace sewn on. Balenciaga makes a suit entirely of black cotton velvet, excepting for the seams and binding around the coat, which are of wool. For a don’t-dress-for-dinner dress, Molyneux uses dull lame, fitting at the
waistline, and lame turban to match. For the more dramatic is Vionnet’s green corduroy velvet suit, the ribs running on the bias, with a girdle of deep red velvet. Black velvet or braid gets around some of the very best suits —Schiaparelli’s cigarette model for those who want to keep straight among the current curves has a black velvet touch. A stark white linen vestee is a startling touch on Lelong’s dinner cj.ress of black silk jersey, with a red crisscross bodice. Pailletted gloves that reach up to the short sleeves accompany a beautiful red dinner gown, narrow at the ankles, and draped over the hips. London's evening uniform is a dinner dress, slim, short-sleeved, and a long-sleeved, loose short jacket to match of contrast. Lanvin's ball dress has a green taffeta tunic ballooning over a rose taffeta hoopskirt, with the barest decolletage. Play a Spanish Infanta in a white satin dress, with scrolls of green velvet encircling the neck and hips. Schiaparelli has made a side-button-ed coat of grey-blue wool, fastened with big red buttons, worn over a red wool dress with a Turkish hern. A long-sleeved sweater-shaped top is an interesting feature of a dress in black crepe, with a narrow band of white crepe at the neck.
