ARSON CHARGE LODGE SECRETARY BEFORE COURT. ("Times-Age" Special.) Gordon Willingham, insurance agent and secretary of the Odd Fellows’ Lodge. Eketahuna. who appeared before Mr J. S. Tripe. J.P.. at Eketahuna last, week on a charge of theft of moneys belonging to the Odd Fellows' Lodge, was brought before the Palmerston North Court on Monday to answer a charge of wilfully setting fire to the Odd Fellows’ Hall at Eketahuna on January 27. Accused was remanded till March 13. bail in the sum of £2OO being granted on condition that he reports daily to the police. Detective-Sergeant A. B. Meiklejohn intimated that considerable investigation had yet to be carried oiit.
HORSE SPORTS ALFREDTON SPORTS CLUB. The Alfredton District Sports Club will hold its annual horse sports at the Alfredton Domain on Saturday' and this popular fixture again promises to be something outstanding. The secretary, Mr R. G. Low. states that he has received inquiries for programmes from intending competitors from the Manawatu and Dannevirke districts and that many competitors at the recent horse sports in the Wairarapa have signified their intention of taking part at Saturday's gathering. The grounds lend themselves admirably for picnic parties. Hot water will be provided free and free horse accommodation will be provided for outside competitors. Besides the horse events a programme of athletic contests has been arranged and no doubt these will draw good entries. “Fun for all,” is the Alfredton Sports Club motto and the committee is catering for all patrons, so that they will enjoy' a full day’s entertainment on Saturday.
Personal. Mr A. B. Fordice, the nowly-appoint-. ed headmaster of the Eketahuna D.H.S'. commenced his duties on Tuesday. Miss R. Hill. Masterton. who has been relieving Nurse Davis, has returned home. Nurse Davis, Stanley Street, who has been holidaying at Plimmerton and Wellington, has returned to Eketahuna. RIFLE SHOOTING TARARUA CLUB MATCH. Members of the Tararua Defence Rifle Club fired over the 300 and 600 ranges last Saturday for the Thomasen Cup, under fair conditions. J. P. Petersen was the winner after a shoot
